Theme stays

Theme stays - one week (or duration at your convenience)

These stays bring our guests towards a better understanding of our culture and traditions while they take time to explore the region. They also provide ample opportunities to meet and interact with local people.

They also allow those who visit Rajasthan for the first time to do it in an original manner. As for those who have already visited the major sites of Rajasthan, they can discover other facets of our state.

This approach is especially suitable to those who like taking time to get the spirit of a place and build relationships.

Theme. 1: Indian cuisine

Learning how to prepare a variety of delicious, healthy and simple Indian dishes that you could serve up to your family and friends once back home. Gajendra, my youngest son, will share his passion for cooking with you. He will teach you regional recipes his grandmother and mother taught him and to which he has added his personal touch. His wife Gayatri and his sister-in-law Sushila are also taking part in this activity.

Being a purely vegetarian family, our workshops will introduce you to this type of cuisine.

Mornings at leisure: you can visit Nawalgarh and its surroundings, stroll through the market, discover the most beautiful havelis, etc. Visits or excursions with a local guide can be organised.

In the afternoons, cookery classes, lasting about three hours. The preparation of the evening meal provides the framework of these classes. Along with Gajendra, Sushila or Gayatri, you will pick up the vegetables from our garden, go shopping to the market, learn how to use the spices and make a wide variety of dishes.

Theme. 2: music

The music of India is one of the oldest unbroken musical traditions in the world.

We offer Tabla or classical singing lessons with Sitaram, a passionate amateur singer/musician.

Born in Nawalgarh, Sitaram has followed the family musical traditions. Initiated by his father at an early age, he achieved a degree in vocal music from Maharaja Sawai Man Singh college of Music of Jaipur in 1986. He sings, plays tabla and harmonium. He is a retired bank employee.

Mornings at leisure: you can visit Nawalgarh and its surroundings, stroll through the market, discover the most beautiful havelis, etc. Visits or excursions with a local guide can be organised.

In the afternoons, music lessons: lasting usually two hours, they take place at Sitaram’s or at Apani Dhani.

Theme. 3: traditional crafts

Rajasthan, the land of handicrafts, has for centuries seen patrons encouraging artisans to create refined artefacts and innovate: metalwork, woodwork, miniature paintings, jewellery, pottery, etc.

But it is a craft related to Rajasthan day-to-day rural life we would like you to discover.

Mornings at leisure: you can visit Nawalgarh and its surroundings, stroll through the market, discover the most beautiful havelis, etc.  Visits or excursions with a local guide can be organised.

In the afternoons, introductory workshops on local crafts: you will get familiarised with the tie and dye – a traditional fabric dyeing process from Rajasthan and Gujarat; bangles – bracelets made from a tree resin; wood carving.  You will also spend some time with a leather artisan from Nawalgarh, with a silversmith, etc.
